Tiaty Member Of Parliament has been arrested following the banditry attacks that have been witnessed in Laikipia West constituency.
William Kamket was arrested on Wednesday at his home in Tiaty, Baringo County by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Kamket was taken to DCI offices in Nakuru where he will be grilled concerning the skirmishes that have left 12 people dead, including three police officers.
Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel was also arrested on Wednesday morning at his home in Rongai, Kajiado County in connection to the clashes.
He was grilled at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road and is set to be arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.
The skirmishes have led to the displacement of hundreds of people in the area.
According to the rift valley regional commander George Natembeya, the deaths happened before a security operation began in the region.
“No arson incident, injuries, displacements or deaths have been reported. We have also provided security to those leaving the area so that they are not harassed,” he said.
Natembeya warned politician to stay away from Laikipia saying that now was not time for politics.
He further accused leaders of financing youths causing the clashes by giving them food and guns as they continue raiding the villages
“We have received reports that some of the owners of the livestock are saying they remove them from the ranches and bring 500 Morans to fight with the security officers. This means that these are planned attacks to ensure the area has no peace,” Natembeya said.
On Monday, the National Security Council met and declared Laikipia a disturbed and a security operation area.
The council meeting came two days after an earlier one by the National Security Advisory Committee.
On Saturday the committee decided that more security personnel will be deployed in Laikipia West.
