Babu Owino Accuses Journalist Of Being Paid By Ruto To Air Negative News About Raila

Date:

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili popularly known as Babu Owino is on the spot for allegedly threatening a senior news editor at Citizen TV.

Muraya  Kariuki took to his twitter handle to expose Babu Owino who threatened him for airing negative news about ODM leader Raila Odinga.

According to Kariuki, he received a nasty call from someone who introduced himself to as Babu Owino.

“I just received a very nasty phone call from a person who introduced themselves as Hon Babu Owino on +254 711 111311. This has to do with the work I do. It is not good manners to try to scare lowly journalists. We request that we do our job in peace,” Muraya tweeted.

The lawmaker responded to the tweet confirming that he had called him for always being against Raila as indicated by the news he aired.

“Yes, I called you and you will stop your stupidity. It’s both professional misconduct and unprofessional conduct using your position to influence and air negative news against Baba,” read Babu Owino’s reply.

Kariuki went on to share screenshots of Babu Owino’ s threats. In one of the messages Kariuki is warned that he will face consequences for airing negative news about Raila. The message is claimed to be from the number that called him. The mobile subscriber went ahead to accuse Kariuki of being paid by Ruto to air such negative content about Raila.

“You can enjoy your small post. You will take responsibility for the negative news you chose to air against Baba. We have proved beyond peradventure that you are on DP Ruto’s Payroll,” the message reads.

The senior editor went ahead to challenge the MP to file an official complaint at the station or the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) instead of threatening him.

“File a formal complaint please, with my bosses or any regulatory body that you feel would address your concerns. It is better than this nonsense of threats,” Kariuki said.

This comes after MCK asked politicians to shun from interfering with media freedom.
