Date:

There was drama at the Light of Hope Tabernacle church in Maragua town, Murang’a county after a father and son were found smoking bhang at night.

56-year old Samuel Muturi together with his 19-year old son Julius Murigi were arrested Friday September 3 while also packing more rolls of bhang.

According to the deputy county commissioner of Maragua Joshua Okello the two were arrested with 20 rolls of bhang and 41 packages of illegal drugs as they prepared to go and sell them.

“We received information that the two had the habit of sneaking to the church compound and hide in a building that is still under construction so that they could pack bhang before going to sell it in Maragua town, we ambushed them and arrested them” Okello said.

Currently, the two are under police custody as they wait to be arraigned in court on Monday September 6.

This barely comes weeks after three other people were arrested in the same county for brewing chang’aa and hiding it in church premises.

According to the police, 75 liters  of chang’aa were recovered from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa.

Police said that the brewers resolved to hide their liquor in church so that they could not be detected.

Two women were also arrested during the operation with 101 stones of bhang and a sum of Kshs2, 340 that they had made from selling the drug.

“We managed to arrest the distillers as well as the narcotics dealers. But the transporting team escaped. We have the suspects at Maragua Police Station, they will be charged accordingly,” the area police boss Cleophas Juma said.
