Uganda’s national voters’ register has been sent to the Netherlands for verification, according to Daily Monitor.
The country’s electoral commission has contracted a Dutch company to remove multiple registrations in the register ahead of next year’s elections, the daily quoted officials.
“We have started the process of authenticating the voters to ensure that only eligible voters appear on the register and that they will vote once,” the commission’s spokesperson Paul Bukenya is quoted as saying by Daily Monitor.
It is not yet clear if political parties were made aware of the planned cleanup.

Ugandans will vote for a president and parliamentary representative on 14 January. Eleven Presidential candidates include long-serving incumbent Yoweri Museveni will be competing for the top job.
