Ipoa Launches Investigations Into Mai Mahiu Kilings After Image of Policeman Shooting Civilian Emerges

Date:

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) said on Thursday that it has launched a probe into the alleged killing of a civilian by police in Mahi Mahiu, Nakuru County.

IPOA told K24 that it has been informed about the matter and has taken appropriate action.

“The authority has dispatched the Rapid Investigations Team to Mahi Mahiu to establish circumstances that led to the fatal shooting of two people who were allegedly killed by police officers on a mission to enforce an arrest,” IPOA Chairperson Ms. Ann Makori told K24.

IPOA also appealed to the eyewitnesses to come forward and give information that might help in the investigations.

Images of a policeman shooting a civilian following the two-days demonstration led by sand harvesters in the areas surfaced online.

In the mature video, residents are seen picking the bodies of civilians who were allegedly shot in cold blood by the officer.

Amepigwa kifua, hapana hajapigwa kifua ni kwa mbavu,” a person is heard saying in the video.
