Former Tanzania’s minister of natural resources and tourism Lazaro Nyalandu was blocked while trying to cross into Kenya at the Namanga border point.
Lazaro Nyalandu contested for Singinda North Constituency on opposition party Chadema ticket in the recently concluded shambolic election in Tanzania.
Tanzanian authorities blocked Nyalandu from crossing into Kenya on grounds that he didn’t have the required documents.
Longido District Commissioner Frank Mwaisumbe told reporters that the former minister lacked several documents including the car and other items that he was leaving with.
Nyalandu’s attempt to cross into Kenya came shortly after another opposition politician Godbless Lema successfully crossed into the country from the same Namanga border point.

Godbless Lema, former Arusha Urban MP, has since been granted asylum in Kenya and moved to a safe location in Nairobi.
Opposition leader Tundu Lissu also went into exile in Belgium after being holed up at the residence of German ambassador Regine Hess in Dar es Salaam for days.
Speaking to German media DW before he fled the country, Lissu revealed that had been pursued by Tanzanian police officers and that an order to kill him had already been issued.
The Chadema party leader already survived an assassination attempt in 2017, when he was shot multiple times in his car.
He traveled to Belgium for surgery and stayed there for three years, only returning to Tanzania months to the general election.
Lissu rejected the results of October 30th election that gave Magufuli a comfortable 84% of the vote to his 13%. The election was marred with dozen cases of irregularities and chaos.
President John Magufuli is ruling Tanzania with an iron fist, and does not tolerate dissenting voices in the country.
