Ruler of Dubai injected with Chinese coronavirus vaccine

Prime minister and vice president of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has been injected with coronavirus trial vaccine giving Chinese drug maker Sinopharm a major confidence boost.

The Chinese vaccine is now in the third and final stage of clinical trials and has so far been found safe and effective according to drug maker Sinopharm.

The vaccine has also been tried in China and Brazil, however in Brazil it has been met by resistance from dozens of people who have taken to the streets to protest against mandatory immunization.

The Chinese vaccine has received a major boost in UAE as top government officials have so far received a shot.

The ruler of Dubai shared a photo of himself on Twitter while he was receiving a shot of the Chinese vaccine.

“We wish everyone safety and great health, and we are proud of our teams who have worked relentlessly to make the vaccine available in the UAE,” the ruler of Dubai tweeted.

Top government officials in UAE including the country’s foreign minister, and even front-line healthcare workers have so far been injected with the Chinese vaccine.

UAE has so far recorded 135,141 COVID-19 infections and 497 deaths, according to data collected by the Johns Hopkins University.
