DP Ruto Allies Breathe Fire After PS Kibicho Shun Them From Mashujaa Day

Date:

The difference between President Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto is likely to play out during the Mashujaa Day celebration after Ruto’s allies vow to storm the event to be held on Tuesday at Gusii Stadium.

The move is likely to cause a political showdown between the President’s supporters and those of his deputy.

The relationship between the President and his deputy has increasingly deteriorated prompting the foreign diplomats to pressure the two to tone down their political rhetoric.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, a close ally to the DP claimed that the invited guests were only those close to the President and his handshake partner Raila Odinga but he called on the ordinary “wananchi”  to come out in large numbers and attend the celebration.

“Without a card bearing your name and where you are from, you will not access the stadium. If your father was not a senior chief, minister, or vice-president, there will be no entry. But we are telling you we will enter because this our country and we are all heroes,” said Nyoro.

However, the authorities in Kisii have dismissed the claims by the MP, saying the number of guests will be limited because of Covid-19 restrictions.

On Monday, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said only around 3,000 and 35000 will have access to the venue while the other 8500 will follow the event from giant screens that will be erected in Kisii town.

During his tour in the Gusii region on Thursday, the Deputy President castigated top government officials for trying to stop his political rallies. He told his supporters to stop faulting the police for they were only following orders from their bosses.

“These policemen have no problem. The problem is the people who live in ivory towers who don’t understand the challenges of ordinary people,” he said.

“Those in power are giving orders to the police officers to tear gas ordinary Kenyans.”
