William Ruto Finally Visits Nyamira County

Date:

Kenyan Deputy President William Samoei Ruto finally visited Nyamira County today following push and pulls with the government agencies. The visit comes barely a week after the second in command was barred from setting his foot in the county.

The empowerment meeting was supposed to happen last week on Thursday, but his supporters were dispersed by the police. The move came in the wake of violence that was experienced in Kenol Murang’a county, which saw two people lose their lives. Consequently, the National Security Council limited William Ruto’s meetings due to perceived security threats. In addition, they claimed that the conveners of the meeting failed to notify the police in advance to offer security.

During his visit today at the Sironga Stadium, William Ruto met with the bodaboda Sacco and other women groups. In his statement, he said that all businesses should be treated with respect since all hustles are important. He also condemned those in charge of the security agencies for blocking him and his allies from holding political rallies.

Regarding positions, the second in command reiterated that the conversation should shift from discussing positions to addressing the needs of the hoi polloi. Moreover, he slammed the contents of the Building Bridges Initiatives that advocate for the position of the Prime Minister.

He vowed to oppose any constitutional changes that will increase government positions and warned those behind it to prepare for a tough battle. The Deputy President was accompanied by local leaders from the region; amongst them Silvanus Osoro (MP Mugirango), Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and nominated Senator Millicent Omanga amongst others. In his company were also Kiharu member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro and Mathira legislator Rigathi Gachagua.

The event happened under heavy police presence to provide security and avert any form of violence as witnessed in Murang’a.
