Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday, October 10, hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta who issued a blanket apology to anyone he might have wronged.
The county boss expressed his disappointment in the administration faulting it for abandoning the people who put them in power with the implementation of mega projects in Nairobi.
Sonko was speaking while delivering goodies to a man whose house had been demolished in Kibra in a bid to reclaim land by the Kenya Railways Corporation.
We are not against development in the county but the handling of some of these projects is inhumane especially with the demolitions of people’s houses and businesses.
“I have seen you have asked for forgiveness today, and I hope going forward these issues of forceful evictions will not happen again,” he stated.
He questioned Kenyatta’s nature allowing people to be displaced noting that his advisers were fraudsters who were only out to benefit themselves.
“We are tired of your government. We respect you but we are not afraid of you, that is why we shall address the issues that affect the people,” Sonko stated.
He further stated the forceful evictions should be halted until the government finds ways to compensate residents who have been displaced.
It was a process. Details emerged about how ODM leader Raila Odinga personally intervened to help boost the political career of his trusted ally Suna East MP Junet Mohammed who was vying for a parliamentary seat for the first time in 2013.
In a recent interview, lawyer Duncan Ojwang recalled a tale Junet narrated to him about why he was so loyal to Odinga.
According to Ojwang’, when the former PM’s blue-eyed boy was denied the ODM certificate despite defeating the incumbent, John Pesa, he decided to talk to Odinga.
“Junet called Raila’s bodyguards who told him that the ODM leader was travelling from North Eastern but was scheduled to make a stop at a certain hotel,” the lawyer narrated.
Junet went and found the likes of Jakoyo Midiwo who was a senior member of ODM and Raila’s cousin.
They tried to chase him away but the MP managed to get Raila’s attention. Odinga explained that under the current circumstances, his candidature would trigger tensions in the constituency and stepped into the car.

In his short speech in the event attended by Deputy President William Ruto, President Kenyatta admitted that he had not prepared a speech. He was the only politician to speak at the event and other leaders at the event including DP Ruto, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi did not get a chance to deliver remarks.
“I thought we had a deal that the function would end in a word of prayer and that there would be no speeches. This is not my day, this is a day we decided to dedicate this nation to God,” the head of state started.
