Brighton vs Man United prediction: How will Carabao Cup fixture play out tonight?

Date:

Brighton and Hove Albion have a chance at revenge against Manchester United just a few days after their cruel defeat in the 100th minute of a thrilling Premier League contest last weekend.

This time it’s in the Carabao Cup, which presents the potential for Ole Gunnar Solkjaer to land some silverware as he continues to rebuild at Old Trafford.

The Seagulls will be much changed, just like the Red Devils, which should boost the visitors given their added depth.

Graham Potter may be tempted to rotate less than initially anticipated though given the club now look set to avoid relegation more comfortably than last season.

After 10 changes for the previous round, expect changes again from Solskjaer, with Harry Maguire retained last time and likely to remain here too. Dean Henderson, Juan Mata and Eric Bailly look sure to come in, while Daniel James and Odion Ighalo may get some game time, despite uncertainty over their futures. Brandon Williams, Donny van de Beek, Fred and Jesse Lingard could come in too.

Phil Jones is still out with a knee problem, while Axel Tuanzebe has a foot problem still. Sergio Romero is away due to personal reasons.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Alexis Mac Allister impressed in the last rounds against Preston and Portsmouth, so could come back in here – though the latter is nursing a groin injury. Midfielder Yves Bissouma is still suspended.

Predicted line-ups

Brighton: Steele; Veltman, Burn, Roberts, Bernardo, Propper, Sanders; Jahanbakhsh, Gross, Mac Allister; Gyokeres

United: Henderson; Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Maguire, Williams; Fred, McTominay; Mata, Van de Beek, Lingard; Ighalo
