Governor Sonko was received in Kisumu Town by an overwhelming crowd that did not seem to care about social distancing or the use of face masks.
He also brought the funeral of the late Kevin Oliech, brother to legendary footballer Dennis Oliech to a standstill and gave away Ksh 100,000 after the ceremony.
The family of the departed thanked the governor for supporting them throughout the funeral.
“Thank you for the support you gave us when my brother died, you were there for us and even helped bring his body back from Berlin, Germany,” Sarah Oliech spoke at the funeral.
She slammed the media for antagonising the people against Sonko and not covering the good deeds he was doing in Nairobi.
Dennis Oliech notably took a back seat at the funeral and refrained from speaking.
Laikipia Woman Respresentative Cate Waruguru has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i (Interior), Mutahi Kagwe (Health) and Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution).
Speaking on Friday, September 4 from Kiambuzi, Laikipia County, Waruguru indicated that the three cabinet secretaries were busy politicking other than working on projects in their specific dockets.
“We cannot allow someone who has been entrusted with the security of this country, to go round politicking. Kenyans registered for Huduma numbers last year, we have not seen responsibility or heard of the way forward.
“We are still in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and instead of the CS advising the president to open up the economy, he is busy looking for votes. It is not wrong to do so but they have to be relived of their duties,” Waruguru stated.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has named Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is among those who have illegally encroached into Embombut Forest.
The no-nonsense CS maintained that he will kick out Murkomen should he fail to pack and leave.
The CS asserted that all water catchment areas will be protect and those who have encroached into the same will be kicked out regardless of their political connections.
“We will not allow what happened in Mau Forest to happen here. When Mau evictions were happening, this guy called Murkomen was one of those who went to Maasai Mau and insisted people would not leave. Didn’t they leave. He personally lives in Embobut Forest. Senator Murkomen start packing and leave. The forest is not yours,” stated the CS.
