Divers at Likoni channel on Sunday, December 3 rescued an eight-month-old baby who was on the verge of drowning in the large water body.
The baby was captured by residents who were crossing the ocean and raised the alarm alerting the divers who were on standby in the ferry.
Videos shared on various social media platforms showed a group of five divers using floaters and a rope to rescue the baby.
Their timely response managed to save the baby who was taken by the Kenya Red Cross.
“Heroic intervention at the Likoni ferry crossing. An 8-month-old child, miraculously saved after a distressing incident in the Indian Ocean, is now safe at the Kenya Red Cross rescue centre,” Kenya Red Cross stated.
“Thanks to swift action and our heartfelt gratitude to the rescue team,” they added.
Following the rescue mission, former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko called for planned parenting.
“Imagine an eight-month-old baby girl has just been rescued from the Indian Ocean at Likoni ferry after she was thrown by her mother,” Sonko wrote.
