ODM leader and Azimio la Umoja OKA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga is expected to name his running mate today, Monday, May 16.
May 16 is the official deadline that presidential candidates have to submit names of their running mates ahead of the August 9 polls.
Out of 10 people who were interviewed by the Azimio selection panel chaired by Dr. Noah Wekesa only three candidates met the threshold to be selected as preferred running mates.
The three are; Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Out of the three candidates, Karua emerged as number one, scoring 82 points from the running mate interview. The results should be enough reason for her to be the running mate, because she proved that she can perform very well as a deputy president in case Azimio wins elections.
Secondly, she is a woman and founding member of FIDA. With her being picked, Raila will prove that he supports gender equality which Kenya women love the most. That might just translate to votes Raila gets from women in Kenya.
Karua is also from Central Kenya, a region that boasts of a huge number of voters in the country and that will be a plus for Raila.Â
She is brave and stands her ground. That has earned her the title iron lady. She is the most powerful woman in Kenya’s politics and is not afraid of anything or anyone. She is among those who championed for multiparty democracy.
The mother of two is also the best person to help Raila in fighting corruption. She has not been involved in any corrupt dealings. She is so vocal in fighting against the vice.
She has over thirty years experience in public service and a successful career in social justice and governance. Karua is also was a long serving MP for Gichugu. She respects the civil rights of citizens. That will be a plus in Raila’s government.
