Polygamy was legalized in Kenya in March 2014 when the Parliament passed the Bill allowing men to marry multiple wives.

It was however a common practice in traditional communities in the country and also among the Muslims.

The passage of the bill angered female Members of parliament who stormed out of the house.

Several Kenyan politicians have however never shied away from the fact that they are polygamous and below is a list of some of those politicians.

Mithika Linturi

Franklin Mithika Linturi is among Kenyan men who can multitask when it comes to having women and affairs. The Meru senator has had 4 wives namely Susan Gacheri Kimani, Mercy Kaimenyi, Hellen Mumbi Kariuki and Mary Kitany.

According to his estranged wife Mary, with whom they have a divorce case in court, the Meru senator told her that he had divorced his 3 wives when they met and later got married in 2016.

Francis Atwoli

COTU boss Francis Atwoli is married to Jenifer Khainza, who is the eldest, Roselinda Simiyu and Mary Kilobi who is the youngest.

Kilobi is a news anchor at KTN. She has been married to Atwoli since 2018. In a past interview, the COTU boss revealed that he has 2 wives and 17 children.

Atwoli probably said he has two wives because he disowned Roselinda who decided to join politics. Months ago, unconfirmed reports indicated that he was also eyeing a 23-year old university students.

Boni Khalwale

The former Kakamega has three wives that are known to the public namely Josephine, Adelaide and Diana Okeno but is is alleged he could be having more.

Adelaide, however, passed on in 2019 after a long battle with cancer.

According to reports, Khalwale married his first wife while in his second year of study at the University and the marriage nearly collapsed because campus girls would stick around him much more often.

“My marriage nearly collapsed, since girls would hang around me because I was a politician and the medical school students’ representative. Well, taking a tough course was probably also an attraction. I nonetheless stuck to my girl who is today my wife,” he said in the past

Dansan Mungatana

The former Garsen MP is also a known polygamous man. His first wife Violet Mungatana passed on in March 2019.

Before her passing away, the couple was not living together and Mungatana went ahead and married journalist Mwanaisha Chidzuga.

The politician later dated and married Miss Kenya 2005 Cecilia Mwangi and further reports indicate that he has more women in his life.

Sospeter Ojamong

The Busia governor’s wife is known to be Judy Ojamong’, whom he attends public events with, but he has more than three wives.

It is alleged that several women have taken him to court seeking for child upkeep and maintenance with claims that they cohabited with on different occasions.
