Five suspects who were terrorizing businessmen involved in the liquor industry while posing as Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA)employees have been arrested in Narok town.
The five were apprehended when bar owners became suspicious of their actions in the town and notified DCIÂ officers, among them a notorious senior police officer who is presently on interdiction and who is facing five cases bordering on impersonation in several courts.
The five, including two women, were led by the rogue officer and harassed the owners of liquor stores over claimed noncompliance with KRA rules.
They demanded sizable bribes and threatened to shut down the stores if they didn’t get their way.
As the nation prepares for the Christmas holidays, the traders, who were hoping to profit from the herders’ unexpected financial windfall due to increased animal sales, objected to the harassment and hurried to the in-charge DCI Narok for help.
The DCIÂ dispatched a group of officers right away, and they sped to the town to capture the officials.
Leah Wanjiku, Ann Wagio, Thomas Mwangi, Davies Simiyu, and their gang leader Police Inspector Urbanus Kioko were found to be the five people who were impersonating KRA detectives after preliminary investigations.
The suspects’ various ATM cards, seizure warnings, KRA stamps, and KRA personnel credentials were found and documented as important exhibits. For the offense of impersonating KRA officials, Inspector Davis Muindi Simiyu is currently facing five court charges, three in Nakuru and the other two in Milimani.
The suspects are being investigated for charges of impersonation, extortion, forgery, and other related offenses while they are being held in custody.
