Kisumu County Speaker Jack Oraro has suspended four nominated Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ward representatives after the party revoked their nominations due to allegations of gross misconduct.
Oraro, addressing the Assembly, declared that the four members in question were suspended from all functions of the assembly with immediate effect.
He left no room for ambiguity, stating, “This means that they will no longer participate in any assembly activities until further notice.”
This decisive action by the Speaker has raised questions about the extent of the alleged misconduct and the consequences it might hold for the affected representatives.
Mr. Oraro also emphasized the importance of administrative action in enforcing the suspension. He urged the Clerk of the County Assembly to take note of the communication and ensure that the necessary measures are taken to implement the suspension of the four nominated members.
The four nominated ward representatives who find themselves at the center of this controversy are Caroline Lawino Opar, Kennedy Otieno Ajwang, Peter Henry Obaso, and Regina Atieno Kizito. Their suspension comes as a consequence of a formal request from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for their removal from office.
In a letter dated September 7, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen outlined the party’s reasons for seeking their expulsion.
The letter cited violations of the Political Parties Act of 2011, Section 11 (e) of the ODM Constitution, and the ODM Code of Conduct as the grounds for revoking their nominations.
The precise nature of their misconduct has not been explicitly detailed in the available information, leaving the public and political observers eager to learn more about the circumstances that led to their suspension.
