Following a proposal by Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen to charge a section of roads, ODM party secretary general Edwin Sifuna has vowed that President William Ruto will be going home in 2027.
In a tweet, Sifuna noted that Ruto has not built any roads in the country hence he is not guaranteed to charge road users.
He added that the head of state should first construct his roads before imposing such charges as most of the roads were built during the Kibaki-Raila reign.
He also noted that Kenyans have been paying taxes that were used to build and maintain the targeted roads.
“Kibaki and Raila built most if not all of these roads with OUR money. When you drive on these roads you will see signs by @KeNHAKenya telling you your taxes AKA fuel levy were used to build/maintain those roads. Ruto has built nothing. He cannot tax us for using our own roads. Akitaka ajenge zake aweke toll huko. Our one job in 2027 ni kushukisha Zakayo,” he said.

Murkomen announced the government’s plan to introduce charges on major roads on Friday, Â during the launch of the Kenya National Highways Authority strategic plan for 2023 to 2027.
“I believe that we can toll the road from Athiriver to Namanga, I believe that it is possible to toll the road from Galleria to Rongai to Ngong and back to Karen Shopping Centre. I believe also that it is possible to expand and toll the road of Kiambu road,” he said.
He added that those who can’t afford to pay for the roads can use alternative routes.
“The good news is that there are so many alternative routes along this corridor that those who don’t wish to pay toll fees, we’ll give them those alternative roads,” Murkomen said.
