Public Service Commission, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have promised to work together to weed out public officers with fake academic credentials.
The heads of the three institutions made the commitment during a joint press briefing held at Commission House, on 13th February, 2024.
In the presser, the PSC Chairperson Amb. Anthony Muchiri noted that the Commission undertook authentication exercise on academic credentials, whose initial findings showed that over 2,000 public officers secured jobs, promotions and re-designations using fake papers.
“According to the reports received by the Commission, there are substantial cases of forged academic and professional certificates used for the award of appointments, promotions or re-designation in the public service,” said Amb. Muchiri.
Further, ambassador Muchiri noted that the Commission is handing over the findings of the academic and professional certificates report to the EACC and DCI for necessary legal action against the officers affected.
While speaking at the same presser, the EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde, the Director Criminal of Investigations Mr. Mohamed Amin, applauded PSC for taking a bold step in cleaning up the fake papers mess in the public service.
“The effects of hiring unqualified employees decreases productivity and performance, it lowers quality of work and has a negative impact on team morale” said Amin.
“EACC will work closely with DCI and PSC to ensure we get rid of all fake certificates in the public service, which have dented the image and effectiveness of our public service,” said Dr. Oginde.
In attendance were, EACC CEO, Twahib Mbarak, EACC Director for Ethics and Leadership, Mr. John Lolkoloi, PSC Vice Chairperson, Ms. Charity Kisotu, PSC Commissioner Dr. Mary Mwiandi, Deputy Commission Secretary Mr. Remmy Mulati, Directors and PSC Secretariat.
