Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camp in Mandera was attacked by a group of 20 suspected Al Shabaab militants.
The incident happened on Friday afternoon December 29.
According to the incident report, the militants approached the Quick Response Unit (QRU) Alunga camp in Lafey Sub-County in the northwest direction.
Minutes later, they ambushed the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers and fired rounds of AK 47 rifles, several bombs as well as Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPGs) reinforced with PKM guns.
In response, the officers fired back at the militants, engaging the gunmen for 15 minutes at the camp.
Following the attack, the al-Shabaab gunmen retreated as the officers successfully repelled them.
Per the report, the officers escaped the incident unscathed after everyone was accounted for.
KDF Officers have since launched investigations to unearth the identity of the militants and bring them to book.
