One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals will not be going to the polls united in support of one of their own on the ballot paper, two of the chiefs have resorted to support Raila Odinga.
The alliance which brings together Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula has been championing for one of their own to be on the ballot supported by the rest.
However, the alliance lack popularity even as a united force, Raila Odinga and William Ruto are the clear presidential favorites in the 2022 race.
Because of this, President Uhuru Kenyatta has been trying to get OKA to unite behind Raila and support his presidential bid.
Uhuru has met OKA principals severally in a bid to strike a compromise with them. On August 10th this year, the president met the four OKA chiefs together with Raila at State House, Mombasa.
The four principals, expect Gideon Moi, had been adamant that they must and will vie, and will not again rally behind Raila despite pressure to do so.
But fresh details suggest that Kalonzo and Gideon Moi have decided to throw in the towel and support the ODM leader.
Insiders say that Gideon has already resolved to join Raila. The ODM boss was the chief guest at the launch of Gideon’s presidential bit at the Bomas of Kenya early this month.
Kalonzo is also said to have succumbed to the pressure at last but still fears a backlash among his own allies.
Sources told The Star that Kalonzo has arrived at this decision but is still afraid of the reaction from his allies, hence why his anti-Raila stand remains.
It’s worth noting that the Wiper leader has been warned against again supporting Raila, for the third time, with MPs from Ukambani threatening to abandon him.
“Should our party leader ever make the decision to support the Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga for the presidency, we respectfully assure him of two very painful outcomes,” MPs allied to Kalonzo led by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua had said stated.
The MPs said they will not only abandon Kalonzo, but his Kamba community and other supporters across the country “will never forgive him”.
Mudavadi, the daily was told, that he is the most stubborn one – who has even decided to form a new alliance “Kenya Kwanza” amid reports OKA is dying.
His ally and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has confirmed this, maintaining that he must be in the ballot whether or not he likes it.
“Musalia will be on the ballot. We have options. We are not just locked out dynamics can change, depending on the political terrain and emerging trends,” Malala was quoted by the Star.
Uhuru is keen to have OKA work with Raila as his support in Mt Kenya continue to grow while his traditional bases of Western, Nyanza, Nairobi and Coast are still intact.
The president is keen to see Raila win with overwhelming majority come 2022 presidential election that’s why he is banking on the support of OKA.
