18 People Left With Injuries Following An Attack By A Psycho Squirrel

Date:

18 people were left with injuries following an attack by a psycho squirrel within a period of 48 hours in Buckley, North Wales.

The squirrel nicknamed stripe attacked the elderly and children outside their homes and some villagers said that the rodent even chased after them down the streets.

Locals called the squirrel stripe after the evil character in the Gremlins film. Victims of the attack took to social media to warn others to stay out of his way.

“Warning, vicious squirrel that attacks has bitten me, attacked my friend…. and multiple other people. It’s also attacked my two Bengals, who fear nothing, and my neighbours’ Bengal cats,” a local posted on Facebook.

The attacks were however brought to an end by a 65-year old woman who had been feeding the squirrel since March.

The squirrel was a frequent and friendly visitor at Corrine Reynold’s garden. Initially it came to steal bird food before she eventually befriended it.

“All those months he’s been fine, he would even come and take a nut out of my hand.”

Corrine, an animal lover, often takes in injured birds such as seagulls or corvids until they get well before releasing them.

The rodent, however, bit her last week as she was feeding him in the garden and then she saw reports of the attacks on Facebook.

“After I saw all those pictures of people’s injuries, I thought ‘oh my goodness, what’s happened to him’?” Corrine said.

At that instance, she knew that something had to be done so as to stop the attacks.

“Because I knew him, I knew I was likely to catch him. I only left the trap near the area I normally feed him for 20 minutes, and he was in. I felt he did trust me, and I betrayed him,” the 65-year old said.

“My garden is like a bird sanctuary. But I know I did the right thing. I have a two-year-old grandson, if he’d been bitten on the finger, he could have lost it,” she added.

The RSPCA took Stripe in following his capture by Mrs Reynolds and, after examination, he was euthanized by a vet.
