Sixteen boys are being treated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) after complications following circumcision in Eldoret.
Dr Wilson Aruasa, Chief Executive Officer of MTRH, Eldoret, acknowledged that the boys are being treated at the facility for secondary infections (sepsis) while going under the knife.
According to the official, the initiates are from Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nandi counties.
“They are responding well to treatment, mainly with secondary infections(sepsis) after undergoing circumcision,” Dr Aruasa said.
Traditional circumcision is conducted as part of cultural traditions in most African cultures as males go from childhood to adulthood.
In the near past, reports of boys being infected as a result of improper circumcision.
A 14-year-old kid from Tarakwa, Ainabkoi Sub County, Uasin Gishu County passed away as the result of complications from a complicated circumcision.
