The suspects appeared before Kimilili Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo where they pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh.1 million with one surety of a similar amount.
The students will now be held at Kimilili Police Station at the juvenile cells until they comply with the bail terms.
The magistrate also ordered the an assessment on the students to determine whether they are minors or not.
She further directed that the accused persons be supplied with copies of the charge sheet and witness statements.
The case will be mentioned on December 20, 2021 before the hearing that has been scheduled for January 25, 2022.
This comes as Education CS and his interior counterpart Fred Matiang’i push for the reintroduction of caning in schools to curb the increasing cases of indiscipline and unrest among students across the country.
“We need to introduce caning back in schools like yesterday… do not expect our teachers to do the impossible,” Magoha said.
Matiang’i on his side said, “We must discipline our children and we must insist on some things we cannot create a society of animals. So our work is to build schools as they burn them down? It’s tough love, our children must understand one thing that it takes sacrifice from parents to get these things,”
“I am not a subscriber of those things of human rights of the child, because the Bible says spare the rod and spoil the child, I want us to start talking how we will discipline our children,” he added.
