Kibingoti village in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, is in shock and mourning following the death of a grade four student at Kibirigwi Primary School.
The 10-year-old child committed himself by hanging himself in their home a few days after planning his own grave, according to her grandma Rose Nyambura Ritho.
He was quite joyful the day before, but little did they realize it would be the last time they would see him alive, according to Nyambura, who claimed she is still in shock.
She claimed to have even purchased him new year’s attire. When questioned why he had dug his own tomb, Nyambura claimed the youngster had replied that it was to grow bananas.
“He made a fairly big hole. He explained to me that he wanted to plant bananas there when I questioned him about its purpose. I informed him that it was too near the power lines and promised to show him where he could plant his bananas, if he so desired.” she says.
Little did they realize they would never see him again after discovering his lifeless body last at around 7 o’clock that he had covered the hole.
