Tanzanian Opposition leader Tundu Lissu has gone to exile in Europe after hiding in the German embassy for fear of his life.
Lissu’s exile come after he was arrested together with the opposition MP Godbless Lema. The opposition leader was later released after a thorough interrogation by the Tanzanian detectives. He then proceeded to the German Embassy and was holed there for his own safety.
Since election, Tundu Lissu has been at loggerheads with the ruling government after he rejected the outcomes of the presidential elections. According to Tundu, the election was rigged as a result, he was planning to hold a countrywide protest. However, the impending protest was thwarted by the Tanzanian authorities.
The leader has severally cited many threats to his life before and after the Tanzanian general elections.
“Tundu Lissu was shot in the past, we take no risks when it comes to his safety. We are currently in discussions with various governments to call for the non-recognition of the presidential election. We are investigating the wrongdoings of the CCM and compiling evidence to file a complaint to the ICC.” Said Tundu’s lawyer Mr. Robert Amsterdam.
