A Kitiu MCA was arrested by the police for allegedly stealing an Sh30 million county bulldozer.
The MCA, Sylvester Munyalo Kitheka, who said to be sickling, will be taken to court on Wednesday according to the police commander.
Kitheka is said to have gone into hiding soon after the county prosecution office ordered his arrest and that of his aide on October 16 following the theft of a bulldozer.
The bulldozer which was doing road works in the MCA’s ward was recovered in Ruiru more than 100 kilometers away.
Kitui county acting Lands and Infrastructure chief officer John Kunga wondered how such huge machinery had been moved long distance without being noticed.
An anonymous caller is said to have seen the machinery as a desolated place in Ruiru.
Detectives accused the MCA and recommended his prosecution together with his aide as other accomplices who is yet to be found.
A manhunt was launched after Kitheka went into hiding after learning that the police were after him.
After a long search, the ward rep was found on Tuesday last week at Kitu county referral hospital where he had “ostensibly” gone for treatment.
“The MCA is sickly and he was therefore given police bond to appear in court on November 4,” he told the Star.

The police commander said the MCA was implicated by several witnesses.
“It appears that the plan to steal the bulldozer was carried out digitally and police had to make sense of communication threads pointing to the culpability of the MCA and other people. The file has been submitted to the office of the DPP for direction,” he told the Star.
After the bulldozer was recovered, the authorities would not explain how the huge machinery was moved to Kiambu without being noticed.
