Deputy President William Ruto has unveiled his preferred candidate for the upcoming Machakos Senator by-election.

Ruto candidate, Urbanus Ngengeke will be seeking to take over the senatorial seat following the death of former Senator, Boniface Kabaka.

The Deputy President unveiled Ngengele on Thursday, January 14 after they met at his Karen residence, accompanied by a number of leaders including the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama.

Ruto expressed his gratitude to witness the partnership forged by the Machakos Senate by-election candidates in favor of Ngengele.

Ruto described Ngengele as a hustler from Machakos county.

“Our gratitude to them for their audacity and leadership to cede their aspirations and back Ngengele for the race,” Ruto said.

Ruto’s announcement comes just a day after the Jubilee party announced it won’t be filling candidates in the upcoming by-elections in the Machakos senatorial seat.

According to Tuju, the party made the decision, not to field the candidates is in line with its position to unify the country in line with the Building Bridges Initiative.

Tuju also noted that the party would note fill candidates in the upcoming by-elections in Kabuchai and Matungu parliamentary seats.

Tuju noted that the two parliamentary seats were previously held by ANC and Ford Kenya partied which are BBI friendly.

“We are enjoying a good engagement with Wiper, ANC, and Ford Kenya. The decision is in line with Jubilee’s bigger picture of unifying the country,” he said.

The Independent and Electoral Commission announced that the Machakos Senatorial by-election will be conducted on March 18.
