Veteran Kenyan journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela has been allowed to leave the hospital after his medical bills amounting to Sh1.1 million was cleared by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mambo Mbotela has been receiving treatment at Nairobi South Hospital.
In a statement released on Thursday by the hospital’s human resource Manager Mutavi Stephen, the journalist had recuperated and was set to be discharged from the hospital on Friday, November 13 as per the doctor’s recommendations.
His medical bills had accumulated to Sh1,105,498 which was to be cleared before the journalist could be allowed to leave the hospital.
The hospital then requested the public to come to Mambo’s rescue to raise the medical bill.

Sources from Mmotela’s family said the President stepped in and helped them settle the hospital bills, where Sh1 million was paid in cash to secure the discharge of the journalist and the rest of the money was to be cleared at a later date.
Mbotela, famously known for his Je Huu Ni Ungwana? show on radio and TV has now been released and currently undergoing home care treatment.
