Mombasa residents flouting Ministry of Health’s recommendations on Covid-19 were on Wednesday forced to perform strenuous physical exercises as punishment.
Officers from Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) and General Service Unit (GSU) decided to punish commuters at the Likoni channel who were caught flouting Covid-19 recommendations.
The officers forced male commuters to lie down at push-up position while using their fists, while female offenders were asked to put their hands up while facing the wall.
Many of those caught off-guard flouting Covid-19 regulations were found not wearing their masks appropriately with a majority having them on their chins and without covering their mouths and noses.

The officers asked male offenders to lie down for about 10 minutes before being instructed to wear their masks appropriately and set free.
Some commuters said the move by the officers was lenient compared to being taken to court to face a fine of Ksh 20,000 or six months in jail.
The move by the officers on Likoni channel crossing comes as Kenya continues to record high numbers of new Covid-19 infections and deaths.
President Uhuru kenya reviewed the country’s COVID-19 measures Wednesday in measures aimed at arresting the surging cases of the virus.

The president also ordered civil servants aged above 50 years and anyone with compromised immunity to work from home.
