A court in Embu has reprimanded police officers who arrested a suspect who was injured in a bar brawl and was not taken to a hospital.
The court’s magistrate henry Nyakwema said to was wrong for Itabua Police Station officer to lock up Sammy Mbogo, who had a serious eye and forehead injury without taking him to the hospital.
The magistrate wondered what could have happened if the suspect had internal bleeding in the brain and died in the cell, noting it was a mistake that should never be repeated.
Mbogo, who was represented before the magistrate on Monday to answer to charges after a fight at Kivue Town in Embu County, said he was injured as he was separating revelers who were fighting at a birthday party.
Mbogo was unable to see with his left eye, which was swollen.
