M-Pesa Customers To View Recipient’s Name Before Sending Money

Date:

Mobile money users, M-Pesa will now be able to see the name of the targeted recipient before completing the transaction in a bid to minimize the chances of erroneous transfers.

The latest feature is an improvement from the current one where M-Pesa users have to complete the transaction before being issued with an option of canceling the transaction with 25 seconds.

“Customers now have the opportunity to truly confirm the details of a transaction before it can progress making reversals a thing of the past,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.

The development comes after the telecom giants, Safaricom rolled out M-Pesa services on the *334# menu, allowing for this new capability.

The *334# will complement the traditional location of M-Pesa services in the Sim ard kit menu which according to Safaricom do not allow much flexibility.

The new feature will further minimize erroneous transfer since the current feature has been allowing users to send money before the name of the recipient appears on the screen.

The current feature that customers have been using has only been allowing customers to cancel erroneous transactions within 25 seconds, further than that the transaction cannot be stopped.

The new feature is mostly targeting non-smartphone customers or be used as an alternative to the Safaricom application.

For customers to use the new service, they will dial *334# upon which they will receive a choice of different M-Pesa services such as Send Money, withdraw cash, Buy Airtime among others.

In a nutshell, the new service brings together all services previously been offered through different quick codes. The other options also available on the new code include M-Pesa Global which allows users to send and receive money across the globe.
