George Kori’s body was found dangling from near his family’s Elburgon home on Sunday, May 24. George was a K24 TV journalist based in Molo, Nakuru County.
Speaking to a local news site, a fellow journalist based in the area revealed that Kori was reported missing on Tuesday, May 19.
“He went missing on Tuesday only to be found today dangling from a tree near his family home in Elburgon.”
It was further revealed that the journalist had been undergoing a torrid time in his family set up and described as having been battling with depression.
Like many individuals facing depression, he turned to alcoholism to mask his sorrow, which eventually led to his untimely death, allegedly via his own hands.
“Actually, his mother had gone to report of her missing son when she heard that a body of a middle-aged man had been found somewhere. She accompanied the police only to find it was her missing son,” the correspondent detailed.
According to the correspondent, Kori hadn’t submitted any story to his media house over the last month leading up to his death.
However, this did not raise any alarms as his Molo station was not known to be a major hub for news that needed to be submitted on a daily basis.
On May 21, Mediamax Limited, the company which owns K24 TV, Milele FM, and both Kameme FM & TV announced the reorganisation of its staff structures in a move that may see a number of employees lose their jobs at the media house.
This was the second time the company announced a major restructure in under seven months after over 160 employees were fired back in October 2019.
