Kenyans in the sports fraternity are in mourning after veteran rugby player and former Kenya 7’s (Shujaas) player Allan Makaka Shisiali, passed away.
Makaka died on Friday night, May 22, after being involved in a grisly road accident along Mombasa Nairobi. The former Harlequin’s RFC player reportedly rammed into a truck from behind.
A witness who spoke with a local news blog narrated that he arrived at the scene a few minutes after the accident and was horrified by the incident.
“I felt touched as I was near the spot where the accident occurred. It was around 11:50 p.m. and the vehicle had rammed into the lorry, from the private car’s driver’s side.
“I heard a bang and I went to check out to find the truck had stopped. I don’t know how the accident happened or why,” he disclosed.
The veteran’s body was taken to Montezuma Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Makaka featured for Shujaa’s in 2006 before being dropped due to injury and was recalled in 2008 when Kenya faced Maroc Scolaire in Tanger, Morocco.
In 2018 he also featured in Tusker Safari Sevens tournament under former coach Benjamin Ayimba.
According to Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), the 37-year-old is no 21 on Kenya’s all-time top 30 try scorers on the World Sevens Series, with 28 tries.
