On Thursday thousands of Kisii residents threw the caution to the wind and abandoned social-distancing guidelines to mingle free with Deputy President William Ruto.
A series of photos seen by Sonko News showed Kisii resident – score without face masks – struggling to have a taste of the Deputy President’s hands who was flanked by south Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.
The second in command strode through the town, addressing a multitude of people from the sun-roof of his SUV on a visit that had earlier been marred with a series of protests.
On Thursday morning, the anti-Ruto protests had been organized where the residents rocked the town with pro-handshake protester burning tires and blocking the roads.
Another wing of Ruto’s faithful, among them bodaboda riders joined the fray, attempting to overrun the anti-Ruto protests.
Normalcy was restored in the town after police officers lobbed teargas at the protesters.
Deputy President who landed in the town in the afternoon to a rapturous welcome from his supporters condemned the protests saying the time for chaos has passed.
The Deputy President said security agencies should practice restrain at all times and allow locals to practice their basic freedoms.
Ruto said police should not be be used to achieve the selfish interests of anybody.
Ruto is in Kisii to fundraise for bodaboda rider in Kisii town and South Mugirango.
