Conor McGregor Makes Third Retirement Announcement In Fours Years

Date:

UFC legend Conor McGregor announced his retirement from the game for the third time in four years just six months making his UFC comeback.

The 31-year-old Irish man issued his statement on his Twitter account where had announced his previous retirements both in 2016 and 2019.

The former featherweight and lightweight champion made a similar announcement in April last year only to make a u-turn less than a year later.

On his twitter account, McGregor said, “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been!

“Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World titles wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”

According to McGregor, he said bye to the ring because he was bored with UFC after watching recent behind-closed-doors fights. However, the MMA fighter hinted at future returns. McGregor said he will see what the future holds for him with regards to returning to the ring.

The fighter wondered if it was the absence of the crowd that made the game so boring for him. To him, MMA had no buzz and the had to call it a quit.

“I am a bit bored with the game. I watched the last show – Woodley vs Burns show… I am just not excited about the game,” the Irish man said.

The news about his retirement took everyone with a surprise. Just a few weeks ago McGregor took to social media and claimed that he would finish his career as the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

“The array of finishes, across 2 divisions, with champion status in 1, Anderson Silva is No.1 MMA GOAT.

“However [I am] still active, No.1 is fully secured by career end. And easily,” McGregor tweeted.

The UFC’s schedule for the current season has been disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic but Conor McGregor was expected to get his title shot towards the end of the year. McGregor is said to have held talks with Dana White about taking another fight earlier than previously announced.
