Alfred Mutua reacts to Machakos County having 4000 school pregnancies

Date:

Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua of Machakos County has finally opened up about the sad news of school girlfriend getting pregnant in his county.

Currently as it stands, Machakos County reported 4000 teenage pregnancies in Machakos County as reported by the mainstream media.

This number has shocked the Republic since is the highest number recorded yet at least since school children were asked to stay home because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I am SHOCKED by the figures of teenage pregnancies reported.” Dr. Alfred Mutua’s tweet read. “Even though the figures are less because the number of 4,000 represents multiple visits of pregnant girls to hospitals, even a single teenage pregnancy is UNACCEPTABLE.”

The Governor also shared some data showing that the issue isn’t only a Machakos County issue but an “epidemic” the country is currently having and one that should be tackled together.

“This is a national problem. During my teenage days, we attended sexual education classes in Church and at school that taught us to avoid promiscuity and protects ourselves from other vices and diseases. We all need to address this problem, Corona or no Corona. Data below.”

“CLEARLY, the problem of teenage pregnancies is a national problem. As the data below from the Kenya Health Information Systems in the National Government’s Ministry of Health shows, NIKUBAYA – more so in some counties than others. LAZIMA TUTATUE SHIDA HII PAMOJA.”

“We have to protect the innocence of our children and we must do as a society and in our family units. In Machakos, all pregnant girls will be encouraged and enabled to attend classes. They should be in school when schools reopen.”

“You cannot have girls excluded from education while the boys who made them pregnant are in class improving their chances of success in life. Girls, pregnant or otherwise, should NEVER be stopped from attending school anywhere in Kenya. It is their human right.”

“We also need to be REASONABLE and admit that even though there are grown men preying on teenage girls in Kenya, many young boys are boyfriends of their girl age mates and engage in teenage sex. Men who defile our girls need to be dealt with but we also need to talk to our sons!” Dr. Alfred Mutua continued.
