David Andhl passed of Covid-19 related complication in early October. But death could not deter the 55-year old rancher from winning his race for the state House of Representatives.
Andahl won the Bismarck-area district on Wednesday even after passing away on 5 October after contracting Covid-19.
The family of Andahl announced last month that the 55-year-old died after a short battle with the deadly virus.
“He was very cautious especially because he did have a few health challenges, but he was unable to fend off this disease,” they posted on Facebook according to SBS.
“We are heartbroken, and we ask that he be remembered not by how he died, but by how he lived.”
According to the family, the Late Andahl was looking forward to serving in the state legislature.
“We are sad that his wish will not come to pass.”
It is not however the first time in American someone won an electoral sat despite being dead.
In 2018, Dennis Hof, a Nevada brothel owner and TV star who wrote the book “The Art of the Pimp”. won a seat in the state legislature. Mr. Hof died three weeks before the election.

Andhal is among the more than 230,000 Americans who died from the Covid-19. More than 9.4 million Americans have contracted the virus this year.
According to SBS, in exit polls, 18 percent of Americans said the pandemic played a vital role in their decision at the US elections.
